History

Playa San Juan is a small fishing village nestled somewhere between the up-market resort of Costa Adeje and the charming seaside town of Los Gigantes. It remains a Canarian fishing community first and foremost, but tourism has been a significant source of income in recent years.

Playa San Juan is the final port on the island’s southern coast and was previously referred to as port number seven. With the passage of time, it has become an important location for the packaging of goods going into and out of Puerto de Guia or San Juan de Guia, in conjunction with coastal commerce activities.

It was in 2009 that the beach was given a makeover, with a lot of bright sand added to make it more appealing to visitors. A new seafront, complete with restaurants and cafés, was also constructed during that time. In addition, major remodeling and repair efforts have continued in the central square.

All of the renovations and improvements have resulted in a more enticing Playa San Juan for vacationers. Whether you’re searching for a spot to relax on the beach, explore the magnificent surroundings, or simply soak up the sun and sangria in the outdoor cocktail bar, this charming fishing village should be on your list of places to visit.

Why Visit Playa San Juan

Tenerife is a breathtaking island that is abundant in tourist attractions. However, many visitors flock to the same well-known locations, leaving some of the lesser-known gems relatively untouched. One such gem is Playa San Juan, a unique beachwith a mix of dark and light sand and pebbles. Although it may not be as popular as some of the other beaches on the island, Playa San Juan is definitely worth visiting. Because of these two aspects below, it’s the ideal location for unwinding and escaping the stresses of daily life.

Beach

Playa San Juan is the ideal place to get away from it all if your previous encounters with the beaches of Tenerife have been limited to the crowded and overcommercialized beaches found in the southern part of the island.

Playa San Juan, despite being beautiful and quite vast, does not match the white sands of vacation brochures and is not surrounded by huge hotels. There aren’t as many tourists around, so it’s more family-friendly and quiet. This beach is frequented more by locals, making it a must-see for travelers who want to avoid the usual tourist traps.

Playa San Juan, a 360-meter stretch of sand, is protected from the wind and waves by the fishing harbor and the jetty. The water here is crystal-clear and generally placid. Although there are a lot of pebbles between the beach and the ocean, the bay has sand on its bottom. Additionally, it has been awarded a Blue Flag since 2012, indicating that its waters and services are of the highest quality.

Showers, bathrooms, and accessibility ramps are all available at Playa San Juan for your convenience. For those who aren’t comfortable swimming in the ocean by themselves, beachgoers can rent sea buggies. Parents with young kids will be happy to know that there is a children’s playground and a lifeguard service for their safety. As a bonus, there is also a tourist information center on-site for people who may need additional information about the area or island.

Playa San Juan truly is lovely in every way, and maybe the frosting on the cake is the promenade lined with cafes, restaurants, and shops. This boardwalk provides the ideal vantage point to take in the views and watch the world go by.
