Playa Blanca is a prominent beach town on the southernmost tip of the island of Lanzarote, in the Canary Islands. Playa Dorada

Playa Dorada is a stunning white sand beach with sparkling blue waters, set by a strip of seaside eateries and shops. Bars and restaurants located along the beach provide an ideal place for sipping drinks during sunset. On the west end of Playa Blanca, you will find Playa Flamingo, a family-friendly beach lined with sunbeds and umbrellas, close to a row of restaurants and a supermarket.

Playa de Papagayo

For a unique beach experience, you may want to head to Playa de Papagayo, which can be found around the most southern part of the island of Lanzarote. To get here, you will have to brave a rough drive, but what awaits you is worth it. This beach has stone circle pools that were created during the island’s extensive volcanic activities, but also a strip of sandy beach, which gently slopes into the sea.

Museo Atlantico

Not to be missed is the Museo Atlantico Underwater Museum, a unique dive site and underwater sculpture gallery as envisioned by artist Jason deCaires Taylor. Initially created as a way to draw attention to environmental issues of the oceans, it has become a top-rated site for visitors, and should absolutely be on anyone’s bucket list for visits to Lanzarote.

Aqualava WaterPark

The Aqualava waterpark is a fun place to spend a day as a family, especially if you are traveling with younger children. This park features pools that are heated via geothermal energy, as well as wave pools for both children and adults. The running theme at the park is all about volcanoes, and there is a castle with slides of different shapes and buckets releasing water sporadically, causing much laughter among the young ones.

Simple & Natural

Those looking for a traditional Mediterranean cuisine will love Simple & Natural, a Spanish café and tapas bar that serves the best garlic prawns in Playa Blanca. They also have a range of homemade cakes and an excellent coffee, perfect for a little afternoon snack along the beach promenade, close to the many shops in the area.

Getting to Playa Blanca from the Airport

Traveling to Playa Blanca will have you flying into the Lanzarote airport, from which you will have several options to choose. You can rent a car and drive to Playa Blanca directly, which should take an estimated 40 minutes. Airport transfers are also available, which are an affordable option at 6€ per head – however, these will need to be pre-booked, as you won’t be able to buy a ticket upon arrival at the airport.

You can also take a bus from the airport to Playa Blanca, but be sure to check the schedule beforehand. Buses usually leave the airport every 30 minutes between 7:30am and 10:30pm on weekdays. Weekend schedules will have fewer buses available, as well as public holidays. You can also choose to take a taxi, which will cost you around 50€, and is the more expensive but comfortable option.
