So take a break from your sightseeing and make some memories at this fantastic beach in San Bartolomé de Tirajana.
Why Visit Playa de Veril
Whether you’ve only spent a few days on the Canary Islands or you’re a full-blown sun- and sand-worshipper that’s been to many of its most popular seaside paradises, there are plenty of breathtaking beaches in the archipelago waiting to be discovered.
In Gran Canaria, Playa del Ingles and Maspalomas are the most visited waterfront destinations. If the hustle and bustle at these tourist spots are just too much for you, maybe you prefer having a few more feet of sand between you and other holidaymakers, you’ll feel right at home in Playa de Veril.
The beach flies under the radar despite its spectacular beauty and close proximity to top island resorts. Eager to welcome visitors seeking peace and quiet, it boasts a good number of amenities and is a short walk away from various watersports and gastronomy.
Two Relaxing Bays
Playa de Veril, a beautiful blend of golden and darker sand, is overlooked by a headland that is home to restaurants, a shopping area, and the promenade of Paseo Costa Canaria. While it’s close to Playa del Ingles, this less-crowded beach offers an excellent alternative for visitors who want to avoid the crowds and noise at neighboring tourist hotspots.
An excess of 56,000 cubic meters of Sahara sand from Playa de Las Canteras was transported to this length of dark volcanic beach. Two new beaches were created due to the construction of three breakwaters: the greener Playa El Cochino (the first beach from the east), popularly known as Piggies Beach, and Playa El Veril. Known as Playa de Veril as a whole, these two bays appear like individual beaches when you walk down the shoreline up until you see them from the Paseo above. Both can be reached by walking down several steep steps either from the promenade itself or through cut-throughs from various points.
The very relaxing Playa de Veril is protected from strong winds by the rock wall that overlooks it. The jetties, on the other hand, shield the bays from high-energy swell. At the edge of the second bay to the east, there are sunbeds, parasols, showers, toilets, and a small kiosk where you can get some drinks. There’s also a lifeguard on duty during on-season.
Relaxation is in abundance at Playa de Veril, where the invigorating salty aroma of sea air, tranquil waves, and the cool breeze all work together to rejuvenate the body and mind. You don’t have to battle the crowds here to discover a peaceful stretch of coastal paradise. Indeed, it’s the perfect spot for an entire day of squishing your toes in the sand and soaking in the sun without having to deal with throngs of tourists or traveling to far-flung locations.
Family vacationers, especially those traveling with young children, love cooling off in the calm waters and shallows at this scenic coastal location. If you’re looking for a more diverse crowd, Playa El Cochino or Piggies beach is the place to go. You’ll come across several young couples and same-sex couples here.
Watersport And Activities
An idyllic place to unwind and take in the scenery, Playa de Veril is the perfect setting for a day of sunbathing and swimming. The blue waters are teeming with fish and crustaceans, and the visibility is good for snorkeling. Other popular pastimes include paddling and spotting the local wildfowl population. Make sure you bring all your own gear because there are no rental options.
There aren’t many things to do on the beach other than the ones mentioned. However, you’ll be able to take advantage of a wide range of fascinating activities and attractions in the area due to Playa de Veril’s ideal location. These include horseback rides across the countryside, camel rides across the Maspalomas sand dunes, and off-road driving on a UTV buggy.
It is highly recommended that you visit nearby ports for the island’s best boat tours if you like sea adventures. The 388-berth Pasito Blanco Marina is only 15 minutes away by car. A 20-minute drive will take you to the scenic Puerto de Mogán, which boasts 216 dock spots for sport boats. Snorkeling, kayaking, and scuba diving excursions may all be booked from these ports. Other options include parasailing, jetboating, flyboarding, banana boating, etc.
Drinks are available at a beachside snack bar, but that’s about all. There is, however, Shopping Center Tropical just above it. Here you’ll find restaurants and cafés with outdoor seating, offering stunning views of the Playa de Veril and Playa del Ingles. There are a number of excellent food establishments within a short distance as well.
